Textural Geometric Patterns Are Paired with Delicately Rendered Portraits in Embroideries by Sol Kesseler

Embroidery artist Sol Kesseler captures male subjects in moments of quiet contemplation using a combination of delicate facial features and bold geometric fabric patterns. The Buenos Aires-based artist travels widely to teach workshops on her embroidery technique. In posts on Instagram, Kesseler shows how she works from her ink drawings, which demarcate the exact location and type of stitch for every aspect of the composition. When exhibiting her work, Kesseler sometimes incorporates technology into the viewer experience, which you can read more about in curator Alana J. Coates’ interview with Kesseler. See more of the artist’s in-progress and completed embroideries on Instagram.
